Discover our history since 1899

The history of Nevskaya Palitra is inseparably linked with the history of Saint Petersburg, one of Russia’s most important centres of artistic culture. For more than three centuries, the city has been home to renowned art schools, world-class museum collections, scientific innovation, technological development and the production of materials for artists.

Three Ranges. One Painting Tradition

Every artist develops their own approach to painting, refining techniques, exploring new ideas and gradually shaping a personal visual language. Different creative tasks often require different materials, each offering its own balance of colour selection, pigment concentration and working properties. Nevskaya Palitra oil paints have been developed to support a wide range of artistic practices, from study and experimentation to professional studio work.

The collection comprises three oil paint ranges: Master-Class, Ladoga and Sonnet. Each range has its own character and distinctive advantages, while sharing the same commitment to quality, reliability and carefully selected pigments. Together they form a complete oil painting system, allowing artists to choose materials according to their technique, subject matter and creative goals, while confidently combining colours across the ranges in their artistic practice.

MASTER CLASS - Professional Oil Paints

Master-Class is a professional range of oil paints distinguished by its maximum pigment concentration, exceptional colour purity and outstanding painting qualities. Master-Class offers versatility for both classical and contemporary approaches to oil painting.

LADOGA - Artists' Oil Paints

Ladoga is a range of artists’ oil paints that combines quality & versatility. Formulated without cadmium or cobalt pigments, the range uses modern safe and lightfast alternatives to achieve bright, clean and stable colours.

SONNET - Studio Oil Paints

Sonnet is a studio range of oil paints developed for learning, practice and creative exploration. A carefully balanced palette and thoughtfully designed formulation provide a comfortable and predictable painting experience.

A Living Tradition of Painting

The history of oil painting is a story of continuity, where each era opens new artistic possibilities while preserving a connection to the experience of the masters who came before. Produced in St Petersburg, Nevskaya Palitra artists’ materials continue this tradition, combining generations of expertise in paintmaking with the needs of contemporary artists.

The three oil paint ranges offer different approaches to colour and painting techniques while sharing the same commitment to quality, reliability and artistic expression. Together, they accompany artists throughout their creative journey — from their first explorations of a personal visual language to the creation of mature and accomplished works. Every colour is more than a material; it is part of an ongoing painting tradition that continues to evolve through the work of artists today.

Painting Through the Eyes of Artists

Artists’ materials cannot be judged by technical specifications alone. A true understanding of a paint emerges in the studio, where every colour becomes part of an artistic vision and every decision is shaped through practice. This section features artists who work with our materials, exploring their creative journeys, artistic perspectives and individual approaches to painting. Through their stories, you can see the role that professional oil colours play in the day-to-day practice of a working artist.

EKATERINA NESHKOVA

Colour holds a special place in Ekaterina Neshkova’s painting. She is drawn to complex combinations of hues, subtle tonal transitions, light and air — all the elements that shape an immediate impression of what we see.

ANDREY BAZANOV

Andrey Bazanov occupies a distinctive place in contemporary Russian painting. His work brings together two qualities that are rarely found in such natural harmony: a rigorous academic foundation and a painterly language of remarkable freedom and expressive vitality. At first glance, these qualities may appear contradictory.
ILYA CHIRUN

ILYA CHIRUN. PRESERVING THE LIGHT

Why does an artist return to nature again and again? For Ilya Chirun, the answer has little to do with the search for spectacular subjects or the desire to record the beauty of the world exactly as the eye perceives it.

Olga Grigorieva-Klimova.Painting Begins with Seeing

Working from life has always been at the heart of Olga Grigorieva-Klimova’s painting — people, the sea, flowers, everyday objects, a sunlit day or the slightest change in light.
VYACHESLAV KOROLENKOV

VYACHESLAV KOROLENKOV

"How do we learn to see?" This question lies at the heart of Vyacheslav Korolenkov's work. For him, painting begins long before the first brushstroke touches the canvas.
